    I downloaded this from the iTunes store last Christmas, and it has become one of my favorites. I think it is especially poignant for families who have loved ones serving overseas right now. Even when it seems the world is at war, we can have peace at Christmas and trust in God’s love for us. It’s really a beautiful and thoughtful song.

    This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It just gives me chills to listen to it. When you read about the history of the song – it is from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, it will bring tears to your eyes. Like another reviewer said, when you have someone serving in the military, it really does hit home – it was written during the last part of the civil war.

    I’ll admit, when I first heard the traditional version of this song years ago, I hated it. Yet with Casting Crowns’ driving piano beginning the track and the crescendo in the bridge, this has become my favorite song, almost to the point of obsession. It’s inspiring and beautiful and you need to download it right now if you haven’t already.
